What an Identity Visibility and Intelligence Platform (IVIP) Is, and Why It’s Become a Must-Have Solution

Identity risk is increasingly difficult to see as human accounts, non-human identities, cloud entitlements, and AI agents multiply across the enterprise. Learn what an Identity Visibility and Intelligence Platform (IVIP) is, why the category is emerging, and how unified identity intelligence can help security teams uncover hidden access, prioritize risk, and make better security decisions.

Eliminate Enterprise Security Blind Spots with Identity Visibility and Intelligence Platforms

Ask any security leader how many identities exist in their environment and watch hesitation cross their face. It’s not because they don't care—it’s the exact opposite. They honestly don’t know. When organizations tally human accounts, service accountsmachine identities, API keys, ephemeral cloud workloads, and AI agents, the sheer quantity of identities becomes a guesstimate rather than a concrete fact.

The core issue is simple: traditional Identity and Access Management (IAM) tooling was never designed to keep pace with this volume, the wide variety of identity types, or modern, ephemeral use cases.

Recognizing this critical gap, Gartner® provided guidance this year to the cybersecurity community. In the 2026 Gartner® Hype Cycle™ for Digital Identity report, Gartner® introduced a new category: Identity Visibility and Intelligence Platform (IVIP).

What Is IVIP?

Simply put, IVIP is the intelligence layer that tells you not just “who” has access, but what they can actually do with it.

Therefore, as a basic definition, an Identity Visibility and Intelligence Platform (IVIP) encompasses products that provide rapid integration and visibility for identity and access management (IAM) relevant data, typically paired with advanced analytics (often AI-enabled) capabilities to provide critical information on the state of identity security. This innovation provides a single view of IAM data, activity/events, relationships, configuration, and posture to enable rapid improvement of all other integrated IAM controls and capabilities supporting both improved security and business enablement.

Through our Identity Security Insights® and Pathfinder Platform, we believe BeyondTrust has been building toward this vision for years. While Gartner formalized the new name and acronym, BeyondTrust has already engineered and is delivering it as a Generally Available (GA) solution.
