Question

Can we discover DB's on Operating System server without DB credentials.

Hello Everyone,

I had a quick question and wanted to check with the group. Is there a way to discover all the databases on an OS without providing any DB credentials? Basically, does the scan agent use OS-level creds to get into the system and pick up the available databases the same way it finds accounts?

Thanks,

Prasad

Hi @prasadp87 .

Yes, the Discovery scan require a credential that has privileges to discover the details for services, tasks, systems, devices, users, and databases. Otherwise, you will need to manually include each database as managed by the system.

Best regards.

I agree that we need credentials to scan any asset.

But I am looking for more information if by selecting ‘Database’ option in ‘Detailed Scan’ but without selecting DB credentials, can scanner go ahead look randomly all DB’s on given server?

Thanks,

Prasad

Hi @prasadp87

If you select the 'Database' option in 'Detailed Scan', but do not select the database credentials, the wizard will display the alert below where you can proceed with the scan but will not have the database information.
Remember that there are different discovery credentials, each used at a specific point in the discovery process. In a detailed discovery (even without the database option), it is mandatory to select at least one operating system credential (Windows, SSH, etc.).

If possible, run an authenticated discovery test that the results will be interesting.

Best Regards
