Hello, we have BI PasswordSafe on-prem . When we do IP Discovery scan against 50+ network devices for some of the devices , IP address is added as an Asset after the scan, instead of hostname , I think IP Discovery scan would just query the DNS and add the hostname as an asset along with IP address as details for that asset. All devices have similar DNS entries (hostname : IP ). But for some devices the scan add hostname as an asset - which is the desired outcome , but for others IP address is added as asset

I would verify if reverse DNS is functioning correctly for the targets that are being acquired with IP addresses as their Asset Names vs targets that are being added correctly with their hostnames as the Asset Names.

Yeah, so none of the devices have reverse DNS entries. During the scans it can resolve the hostnames,  that means the hostname is in fact associated with the IP address but then it creates an Asset with IP Address as asset name.  Is there any way we can turn off the reverse DNS checks for at least lest say IP discovery scan (and even for SSH proxy ).

I have the same question: Is there any way we can turn off the reverse DNS checks?

Hi.

I've also seen this happen when Discovery Scan didn't have credentials defined that allow access to the assets presented as IP addresses. What are the Discovery Scan credentials?

@feralton  We are running just the IP discovery scans which do not require any credential

Hi @bt101 .

Using IP Discovery does not guarantee that the FQDN of the assets will be discovered. If the FQDN of the assets is important to you, I recommend performing a test by creating a Discovery scan with credentials and checking the result.

Best regards.
