Slow RDP session - Password Safe

Hi everyone,

The end users are experiencing delay and slowness when taking RDP sessions through Password Safe on-prem. Usually they have to read logs and commands and the slow and delayed screen output is becoming a hassle for them, resulting in a very poor user experience.

After some researching, I found a commonality in the solution that it an issue with the client’s network, however, they are not ready to accept it.

According to them, when they take RDP directly from the U-series appliance, the session is much better but from the Web UI, it’s very delayed and slow.

Has anyone here encountered an issue like this, if yes, how did you solve it.

Thanks in advance.

@Muhammad Haris I went through something like this in my environment. We had to apply the register key GFX - 3 on both appliances. It appears the default codec that Password Safe sessions were using was putting a strain/pressure on the connections, making them slow. Once you apply this key, it changes the codec to a more suitable version. For us, that was the final solution when dealing with slowness in Windows sessions.

Bellow is KB0018738  with the regkey:

Hey @Pulitros144

How are you doing?

We applied the gfx setting in the registry and it actually worked. The slowness reduced considerably however, a new issue arised because of this. All users complained of RDP screen freezing after 2-3 minutes of initiating a session. When closing and opening a new session, same problem faced across mutiple users.

We backed up the registry to its original state for now.

Think you can help here?

TIA

@Muhammad Haris

I just saw a new KB0022607 saying that after upgrading to Password Safe 25.1 or 25.2, the usage of the GFX key is causing this freezing. Luckily for us, we still have not applied the update, but yeah, that is the issue.

At least now you know for sure that your slowness has something to do with the codec being used as default on the Password Safe session. From here, I would open a case with Support and see what they have to say.

I apologize for the issue I unintentionally caused for you. I truly never saw this happen in any of our environments, but since this KB (Knowledge Base article) is only days old, it might be more of a monthly patch issue.

@Pulitros144 thanks a lot for sharing the KB, however, we haven’t updated the version yet, we are running 24.3. This means that gfx is causing this in both version 24.3 and 25.1 and 2.

Support has suggested to apply the hotfix for 24.3 so we plan to do that now.

No need to apologize your suggestion was solid.
