Hi CMSCott,
A publicly trusted certificate is a digital certificate issued by a trusted Certificate Authority (CA) that's recognized and trusted by major browsers and operating systems. This trust means users won't see warnings when accessing a website using this certificate, as the certificate is automatically verified against the CA's root certificate stored in the browser or operating system.
Publicly trusted certificates are issued by public CAs, like DigiCert, Sectigo, or Let's Encrypt. These CAs have gone through a rigorous process to ensure their root certificates are included in the trusted stores of browsers and operating systems.
Hope that helps?

@JayG - I was more referring to following statement:
Prerequisite
- Publicly trusted HTTPS certificate applied to the BI Appliance(s)
Provided the prerequisite has been met, communication between the EPM endpoint and BI server(s) should be seamless.
Although both the policy editor and the BI Adapter use OAuth to communicate with BI, resolving one does not mean the other will also work. Either one working confirms that an SSL certificate is in place to provide secure communication. Any issues with the BI Appliance will likely affect successful communication.
Looking at the Certmgr, it has several Publicly trusted HTTPS certificates applied on the BI appliance.
However, I am having issues connecting the most recent MMC Policy Editor to the appliance, and the rest of the text in the KB does not really help me move forward - hence my term “vague.”
