Question about Beyond Trust On-Prem upgrade

Hi Everyone, 
We are an on-prem BeyondInsight appliance EPM customer for almost 2 years now and need to upgrade our agents as well as our server appliance.  Migrated over from Powerbroker. Someday in the future may go to cloud but not in the works yet.
Currently on 23.9.225 for our agents and BI Server is at 23.1.0.2407.  I was told two different things by support, EPM support stated that the agent and server are independent of each other and can be updated separately whenever, and I was also told that the Server needed to updated first by BeyondInsight support.  Just looking for some guidance or experience on upgrading to the latest version on-prem.  We have close to 12,000 pc’s, so I would like it to go smoothly without much interruption.  Thanks for any help!

      For EPM Client and BI Adapter there are some dependency with the BeyondInsight versions although most versions are usually compatible. If you look at the release notes for EPM-W it will indicate the compatibility version of the EPM Policy editor, BeyondInsight version. Your EPM client version is coming to EOL in Oct 2025 while your BeyondInsight has reached EOL.

       

      I would suggest upgrading the BeyondInsight+Web Policy editor and PMR database before proceeding with the EPM-W client and adapter. If you’re using a new version of client and older version of the web policy editor the web policy editor will not be able to use those features that comes with the new EPM client feature. Furthermore you BeyondInsight version is EOL now and is outside supported version.

        Another thing to consider is that if your concerned about the client and adapter’s not functioning with newest upgraded console, you could do a double upgrade. Find a middle point where the client and adapters are both listed as supported, upgrade to that point, then update client and adapters to that same versioning and then repeat until you are on the latest version. Though, most of the time you can jump straight to new versions.

          Thank you for your advice and guidance.  I will start by upgrading the BeyondInsight+Web Policy editor and PMR database before proceeding with the EPM-W client and adapter.
